He was 33 and the son  of William and Harriett Bailey, of Petersfield, Hants. 

He is rememebered on the Petersfield War Memorial located in the High Street, about 200 metres from the Market Square, Petersfield, and takes the form of a cenotaph in the form of a square pillar mounted on a base; the inscription is within insets in the sides of the memorial. The memorial was unveiled and dedicated in 1922.
