Distinguished Conduct Medal
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took command of and reorganized two platoons after all the officers had become casualties. He was twice wounded.'

'During the operations at MONT ST. QUENTIN, N.E. of PERONNE, on 31st August 1918, his platoon officer being killed, this N.C.O. took charge and under him it did excellent work. He patrolled the trenches on a large front and kept everyone alert.'
