William James Laurie was the son of James and Petrana Marie Laurie of Cordalba, Queensland.
His brother, 3787 Lce. Cpl. Walter Laurie 15th Battalion AIF, died of wounds on 28 March 1918, aged 23.
Another younger brother, 4092 Pte. Donald Charles Laurie 31st Battalion AIF was awarded a Military Medal for bravery during August 1918.
