Son of Alie CHELLINGWORTH and Mrs Agnes OLIVARIE fmly CHELLINGWORTH nee SWAN, Loch Lea Farm, Stone River, Ingham, Queensland
Embarking on 21 October 1916 to France for active service, Jack was twice wounded, the second more seriously being a gunshot wound to the head which took some three months to heal.
Wounded in action 14 Oct 1917, (GSW left forearm)
Rejoined battalion in the field 22 Nov 1917
Wounded in action 25 Jun 1918 (2nd occasion - GSW head & concussion, defect of vision)
Admitted to Graylingwell War Hospital, England on 4 Jul 1918
Rejoined 41st Battalion in France 17 Oct 1918
Detached from 41st 31 Mar 1919, for duty with A.I.F. HQ, England (Aust. Red Cross Soc.)
Returned to Australia per H.T. "Port Sydney", disembarked 12 Nov 1919
Recovered in August 1919 he was returned to Australian in November 1919 and discharged 30 December 1919.
Jack returned home in early 1920 and took up farming at 'Babaroo' less than 20 miles south of Ingham. He married Olive GOSSNER on 21 January 1925, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Eliza GOSSNER of Stone River and had a son Evan in 1926. A few years later jack suffered a fractured shoulder in an accident and contracted an illness which resulted in his death on 16 August 1929 at the age of 35 years. At his funeral, local servicemen acted as pall-bearers. His name is recorded on the Winton Methodist Church Honour Roll.
