Harry was the eighth of eleven children of James Henry Proudfoot (born 1827 in Yarmouth, Norfolk) and Jane Brock (born 1826 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk). James was a Joiner in 1849 in Yarmouth, Norfolk when he married Jane. By 1861 the family had moved to Kirkley in Suffolk where James was a Carpenter, and then settled in Fulham, London.

Harry was a Carpenter's Apprentice in London when he immigrated to Brisbane, QLD, arriving in 1883 on board the Nagpore. He was working as a Carpenter in 1886 when he married Agnes Martha Randle (born 1865 in Brisbane, QLD). Harry and Agnes settled in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, QLD where Harry was a Builder.

In May 1916 Harry enlisted in the AIF and served as a Private (Service No: 2695) with 5th Reinforcements 4th Pioneer Battalion. He was Discharged in November 1917 on medical grounds (Nephritis) and returned to Brisbane.

Harry and Agnes remained in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane where Harry worked as a Builder until his death in 1928. Agnes died in 1936.
