Son of John Thomas and Charlotte Alice COOMBS, Winton via Longreach, Queensland

Awarded, and promulgated, 'London Gazette' No. 31448 (11 July 1919); 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 124 (30 October 1919).

After the war John retuend to Australia and was discharged on 27 July 1919. In 1926 he was working on Oondooroo Station Winton for the Ramsay Brothers,  in charge of the horses.  He enjoyed a particularly long association with Charles Campbell-Brown, manager of Oondoroo for 18 years.  When Ramsay Brothers reliquished Oondooroo after WW2, John operated a blacksmithing business in Winton before becoming the Council blacksmith.  He suffered ill heath in later years and died in 1971.
