Pte Herbert Nicholas Dore was born in Tasmania in 1868 the son of John Dore and Margaret Kenny. By 1908, he had selected land at Bunya creek and from then to 1917 was a farmer at Amamoor. He enlisted in 1917 at the age of 44 years. He served in France until 1918 when he was discharged medically unfit, From 1919 to 1925 he went back to farming in Amamoor.
