Died on this date – 23rd January…… Hector William Rogers was born at Coleraine, Victoria in 1891.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 7th September, 1916 as a 25 year old, single, Labourer from Coleraine, Victoria.
Private Hector William Rogers, Service number 6807, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 25th October, 1916 with the 5th Infantry Battalion, 22nd Reinforcements & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 28th December, 1916.
Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.
On 22nd January, 1917 Private Rogers was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire on 22nd January, 1917 with Broncho Pneumonia from 2nd Training Battalion at Durrington, Wiltshire.
Private Hector William Rogers died at 2.30 p.m. on 23rd January, 1917 at Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire, England from Pneumonia.
He was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
