Son of James Quinlan and Elizabeth Vaughn formerly Quinlan nee David of Wellington Parade, North Williamstown, Victoria.

Served his apprenticeship with Seager Broz. of Ausckland, NZ

Commenced return to Australia on 7 July 1919 aboard HT Chemnitz disembarking on the 5 September 1919

During 1923c Thomas married Lilian Deverell in Victoria.
