my grandma's great love
My grandma fell in love with horace david hunter and became engaged to this young man before he left to fight in the great war. He of course never came home. We now know that she never got over the love of her life. She went on to marry but we were all told of this wonderful man who gave his life for our country. She went on to marry and obviously had children but a feature of my grandmothers home was a picture on the wall of Pharlap the champion race horse. We all wondered what the significance of pharlap was but it was always in pride of place in her homes where ever she lived. When my grandfather died pharlap's picture moved in main view. On my grandmothers death my mother was about to throw the old photo of parlay away when she realized that there was a photo underneath. She pulled it apart to discover the photo of horace hunter under the old pharlap photo. The photo I realize now is the one you have on this site. She wasn' t one to upsether husband but she never forgot him. We now honour him as our honourary grandfather. He gave my grandmother a beautiful gold bangle. We have that as a memento of him. It has been handed down to me and I will insure the story will continue on. Rest in peace Horace. Our family will never forget you.
