George
A miner in Western Australia, where his father had moved in 1905, Private George Dunphy served in the Australian Army during WW1. He enlisted on 17 November 1914 , at Blackboy Hill, Western Australia, giving his next of kin as Mother, Mrs L Cox, Bridge Street, Te Aroha, New Zealand. His unit the 28th Battalion, A Company embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard HMAT A11 'Ascanius' on 29 June 1915; bound for Suez Egypt. George was wounded at Gallipoli, where his younger brother Richard died on the day of the landings and was evacuated to England to recover. He was killed in action in France 29 May 1916 and is buried at Ration Farm Military Cemetery (Plot I, Row G, Grave No. 3), La Chapelle d-Armentieres.
