Died on this date - 12th May.......Lt Leslie Eden George was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1892. He enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 15th March, 1916 as a 23 year old Photographer from Manly, NSW.
Private George disembarked at Suez on 2nd January, 1917 with Reinforcements of 7th Light Horse Regiment. He was transferred to R.F.C. (Royal Flying Corps) on 10th January, 1917, Lieutenant in the A.I.F. on 11th November, 1917.
Second Lieutenant George was appointed Lieutenant on 11th February, 1918.
Lieutenant Leslie George was flying a R.E.8 (Royal Aircraft Factory) Serial No. 60473 on 12th May, 1918 when it stalled, spun, struck the ground & burst into flames at Worthy Down, near Winchester, Hampshire, England. He died around 3 pm on 12th May, 1918 at Worthy Down, Winchester, Hampshire, England as a result of an aeroplane accident. (see photo below)
BOTH Lt George and 2nd Lt Lord DIED IN SEPARATE ACCIDENTS FROM THE SAME AERODROME AROUND 4 HOURS APART.
Both Men were given a joint funeral on the same day & buried next to each other in All Saints Churchyard Extension Cemetery, Hursley, Hampshire, England.
