Biography

 2372 Private Gill embarked with the 7th quota of reinforcemts for the 10th  Battalion AIF and joined the Battalion at  Gallipoli on 17 Sep 1915. On 6 Nov he was evacuated sick to England with Enteric Fever then on 21 Jan 1916 was returned to Australia for three months "rest".  He re-enlisted and on 28 Aug 1917 embarked again this time 2372R Private Gill did so aboard HMAT Anchises. He joined the 10th Battalion in France on 18 Jan 1917 and was Wounded in Action on 25 February. On 11 April he was evacuated to Harefield Hospital, England  suffering from Trenchfeet and severe Gun Shot Wound to the chest. On 21 July 1917 when it was deemed he was well enough to travel he was invalided back to Australia for "change."
