Death of Ipswich Volunteer
MR. NORMAN V. FOOTE.
SUCCUMBS TO PNEUMONlA IN EGYPT.
Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Foote, of Newtown, received a cable from Cairo, Egypt, announcing the death, from pneumonia, of their son, Mr. Norman V. Foote, which occurred at the camp at Heliopolis, Cairo. The deceased was a bugler in the second Australian Light Horse, and volunteered with others from this city in the batch of Light Horsemen which left Ipswich with the first expeditionary force. He was 22 years of age, and was of a healthy constitution, able in every respect, and willing to do his share in the defence of our Empire. The keenest sympathy is felt with Mr. and Mrs. Foote in the untimely death of their promising young soldier son. Deceased was a member of the Conpregational Young Men's Bible Class, of which Mr. J. E. Walker is President, At the weekly meeting of the class, held in the Congregational Sunday-School yesterday afternoon, reference was made to the death of Mr. Foote, and it was mentioned that there were six other members of the class who were either in Egpypt or in training elsewhere preparatory to proereding to the front. This was the first death among the volunteers of the class. A formal resolution expressing sympathy with the bereaved parents and other members of the family, was carried. members standing bareheaded meanwhile. It was also decided that the other membners of the class with the Troops in Egpypt should be requested to place a wreath on the grave of the deceased on behalf of the class.
Reference was also made to the deceased by the Rev. joseplh Robertson at the Congegstional Church yesterday morning, when the Rev. gentleman expressed symparthy with thIe family on behalf of the Church. It is understood that further references will be made to the deceased in the church next Sunday.
