Percival left Adelaide on the Afric on 7 November 1916, disembarking at Plymouth, England on 9 January 1917 and proceeded to France early in April with the 27th Battalion. He was killed in action on 5 May and buried at Queant Road British Cemetery Buissy, France. Percival’s mother Janet Pike was granted a pension of two pounds per fortnight from 17 July 1917. She received her son’s Victory Medal, Memorial Plaque and photos of his grave site between December 1921 and May 1923.
