Herbert James Kraig (born 1891) enlisted under this name as his ancestry was German and his real name is Herbert James Krieg. Years after the war he married Lorna May Emery (1904) and they had two daughters together and a son from Lorna's previous marriage. He was 41 when he married. Herbert farmed wheat and sheep in WA for the most part after the war and became a very successful farmer. His step son became a radio operator in the Catalina's flying out of Darwin during the Second World War. Aparrently Herbert was a 'bit of a lad' during his service, but he matured into a great man of principle and loved his wife, children and grandchildren deeply.
