Walter James Pollard
Walter James Pollard, son of George and Julia Pollard, was born at Forest Range on the 5th November 1895. He was a labourer and enlisted at Murray Bridge on the 2nd March 1917 aged 21. Pollard nominated his next of kin as being his mother, Julia Pollard, of Stirling West.
Pollard joined the 50th Battalion and upon arriving in Glasgow on board H.M. Themistocles proceeded to France where he joined his unit on the 19th January 1918
Pollard was wounded in action on the 25th April 1918, suffering shrapnel wounds to the head. After receiving treatment for his wound at Rouen in France, he rejoined his unit on the 19th June and served out the remainder of the war. Pollard spent three days in hospital at Sutton Veny in England being treated for scabies prior to returning to Australia on board Anchises. He was discharged on the 5th November 1919.
Walter James Pollard died on the 15th December 1986.
