Son of James Edward Unsworth and Mary Ann Unsworth of Enmore Road, Marrickville, NSW

3 September 1915 - enlisted at Holsworthy, NSW with Army Service Corps and with the rank of Driver

9 April 1917 - promoted to Corporal

Commenced return to Australia on 27 July 1917 aboard HT Demosthenes disembarking on 29 September 1917

Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

31 October 1917 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit

During 1918c William married Ada F. Bray in Petersham, NSW.
