Died on this date - 16th July......Private Lawrence John Olsen was born in 1875 in Haugeund, Norway. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 19th December, 1917 as a 42 year old Bridge Builder from Brisbane, Queensland.

Private Olsen embarked from Sydney, NSW on 2nd March, 1918 & disembarked at Suez on 4th April, 1918. From there he was transferred to England & posted to 9th Training Battalion at Fovant, Wiltshire, England on 15th May, 1918.

Private Olsen was admitted to 3rd Western General Hospital, Cardiff, Wales on 17th June, 1918 while on leave. Cause of illness – N.Y.D. (not yet determined). The Hospital Admissions form records “admitted whilst on leave from Fovant Camp, Wiltshire.

Private Lawrence John Olsen died at 7 am on 16th July, 1918 at 3rd Western General Hospital (Albany Rd Section), Cardiff, Wales from Chronic Bronchitis & Cardiac Failure. He was buried in Cathays Cemetery, Cardiff, Wales where 7 other WW1 Australians are buried.
