He was 22 and the son of Ormond Gladstone Darling; husband of Jean Harden (formerly Darling), of 101 Curzon St., North Melbourne, Australia.

Died on this date - 22nd April.......Ormond Gladstone Darling was born at Williamstown, Victoria in 1891. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 17th August, 1914 as a 22 year old, married, Carpenter from North Melbourne, Victoria.
Driver Darling was posted with Army Ordnance Corps & promoted to Corporal.
Corporal Darling served at Gallipoli & was wounded 12-13 July, 1915 with a GSW to knee. He was invalided to England then returned to Australia on 7th November, 1915 with Rheumatism in his knee. He was discharged from A.I.F. as temporarily unfit from active service & on light duties for 3 months – dated 26th October, 1915 by Medical Board.
Ormond Darling re-enlisted on 8th May, 1916 & arrived in England on 11th September, 1916. He was absent without leave from 18th September, 1916 until 5th October, 1916. He was admitted to 1st Dermatological Hospital at Bulford, Wiltshire on 24th October, 1916 & discharged to 2nd Training Battalion in Wiltshire on 2nd December, 1916.
Private Ormond Darling was admitted sick to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire on 16th April, 1917 & reported seriously ill with pneumonia on 18th April, 1917. He died of double pneumonia at 2.50 a.m. on 22nd April, 1917 at Fargo Military Hospital & was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire where 140 other WW1 Australian Soldiers are buried.
