Charles Jinks was the son of Alfred and Margaret Jinks of California Gully, Bendigo, Victoria. His younger brother, 3263 Pte. Stanley Stirton Jinks 52nd Battalion AIF was killed in action at Mouquet Farm in France on 4 September 1916, aged 26. A third brother, 3543 Pte. John Jinks 60th Battalion AIF was returned to Australia in early 1916. He died from a tetanus infection in Melbourne on 23 April 1918.
