88 years ago today, on the Wednesday afternoon of the 17th June 1936, Private William Leslie Frost, 35th Battalion (Reg No-2581), labourer from Bruce Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales and 28 Villiers Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., father of eight (Norman, Nina, Walter, Mona, Irene, Violet, Dorothy & Lorna), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 38. BAPTIST-E NW. 6.

Born at Branxton, New South Wales about 1897 to William Henry, died 3.9.1956, Wallsend, N.S.W., age 84, buried at CATHOLIC 2-55. 83, and Sarah Ann (Annie) Frost nee Rennie, died 7.8.1951, Wallsend, N.S.W., age 82, sleeping at CATHOLIC 2-55. 83, from Lake Road, Wallsend, N.S.W.; husband of Emily Elaine Frost nee Williams, married 1919, Wickham, N.S.W., died 1.8.1953, Wallsend, N.S.W., age?, sleeping here, from 167 Kings Road, New Lambton, N.S.W., William enlisted on the 9th August 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 25th October 1916.

Wounded in action - 12.10.1917 (GSW left arm & left hand, 1st Battle of Passchendaele).

Invalided to England 18.10.1917.

Granted furlough in England from 19.2.1918 to 5.3.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 5.4.1918.

William arrived home on the 1st June 1918, being discharged medically unfit (ankylosis left thumb) on the 2nd September 1918.

Mr. Frost’s name has been inscribed on the Merewether (Mitchell Park) Memorial Gates.
I have placed poppies at William’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
