Ernest Ronan Gotbed RENDELL was born in 1892 in Brunswick, Victoria
His parents were Harry Norris RENDELL and Elizabeth Alice SIMMONS
He married Elizabeth Jane Lucinda Winifred RADCLIFFE in 1914 in Western Australia
Ernest had previous service for 20 months with the W.A.I.R. before he enlisted with the Australian Army on 19th June, 1916 - he was with the 44th Battalion, 6th reinforcements - Unit embarked from Fremantle, WA on board HMAT Persic on 29th December, 1916
He was Killed in Action in the Field on 10th October, 1917 - buried Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium - he is also honoured on the Australian War Memorial -
His headstone has the inscription
"Oh for the touch of a vanished hand
and a sound of a voice that is still"
He was awarded the Military Medal on 28th January, 1918 and the British War Medal & Victory Medal
