74 years ago today, on the Thursday of the 4th November 1948, Sergeant Alexander Laurance Keddie, 2nd Australian Light Railway Operating Company (Reg No-1787), engine driver from "Benalla", 2 Elcho Street, Hamilton, New South Wales and 47 Beaumaris Street, Enfield, N.S.W., father of two (Max and Joan), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 59. PRESBYTERIAN-16NW. 86.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 13th November 1888 to George William and Mary Ann Keddie; husband of Winifred A Keddie nee Gourlay (married 27.6.1919 at 22 Keir Street, Glasgow, Scotland, died?), Alex enlisted March 1917 with the 5th Section Railway Unit at Sydney, N.S.W.

Service record indicates no sickness or wounding’s.
Granted leave to Paris 10.3.1918 to 15.3.1918.
Granted leave to England 12.9.1918 to 29.9.1918.
Granted leave to Paris 17.2.1919 to 3.3.1919.
Granted indefinite leave 26.7.1919.

Alex returned home with wife Winifred on the 27th February 1920, being discharged on the 5th April 1920.

Mr. Keddie’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor (Alexander's name should have been included on the Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor, unveiled on 23th May 1918, 430 names reported to be inscribed, only 372 names inscribed, 36 Fallen, located at the Hamilton Public School, corner of Tudor, Steel and Denison Streets, Hamilton, N.S.W.), Cooks Hill Superior Public School Roll of Honour and the Cowra and District Great War Honor Roll.

I have placed poppies at the gravesite in remembrance of Alex’s service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
