Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Mr. John Owen (Monk) Hill, of Railway-avenue, Clifton, passed away suddenly at Campbelltown yesterday. He had resided in the district for a long period and was formerly employed at Excelsior Colliery, but had to retire some time ago owing to ill health. He had been holidaying near Campbelltown and was to have returned from his holiday today. He served with the first A.I.F. in the last war. He was aged 44 years. Much sympathy is extended to his widow and family of seven.
