Biography contributed by Daryl Jones

Son of William and Amelia TAYLOR, Stanley Street, Oatlands, Tasmania

HE DIED THE HELPLESS TO DEFEND. A TASMANIAN SOLDIER'S NOBLE END

TAYLOR.—In loving memory of my dear son, and our dear brother, Private Gilbert Harold Taylor, who was killed in action at Lone Pine, August 8, 1915.
Far from the home of his childhood,
Away o'er the ocean deep,
In a foreign land our loved one
Is sleeping his last long sleep.
He was far away when the summons came,
But he answered the bugle call ;
"1 must go," he said, "for the Empire's sons
Together must stand or fall."
Deeply mourned.
Inserted by his loving mother, sisters, and brothers, Oatlands; also his loving brother, Gunner E. R. Taylor, on active service.

TAYLOR.—In loving memory of my dear brother, Private Gilbert Harold Taylor who was killed in action at Lone Pine, August 8, 1915.
He was only a private in battle,
Just a part of the great rank and file;
He fought for its flag and its honour;
He has laid down his life with a smile.
He has fought a great fight in the trenches,
In response to his dear country's call;
Australia is proud of her hero,
Though he was only a private, that's all.
Inserted by his loving sister, R. Taylor.
