Biography contributed by Paul Trevor

'MILITARY ITEMS.

Word was received in Ipswich yesterday that Mr. Ewart Price had been killed in action, in France. The deceased was at one time engaged as a porter at the Ipswich railway station. Subsequently he was promoted to the position of guard.' from Queensland Times 20 Sep 1916 (nla.gov.au)

'WITH THE COLORS.

Mrs. H. E. Price, Pomona, whose son, Sergeant Ewart Price, was reported missing, has received the following letter from General Birdwood:- Dear Mrs. Price, —
Thank you so much for your letter, which I have just received, and I only send you a line to acknowledge it, and to assure you again of my very deep sympathy in all the great trouble which I know you have been, and still are going through, on account of the loss of your
really gallant and brave son. As I think I said before, no words can ever help in a terrible loss of this nature, but as time goes on I hope you will be comforted by the knowledge of the brave death which he met, while others, who have stayed at home, and who could have come out, will, I am sure, never again be able to look honest men and women in the face. With my kindest regards, and again my deep sympathy.' from The Daily Mail 22 May 1917 (nla.gov.au)
