Roy Kippen Lewis was the 5th of 7 children of Samuel Lewis and Ann Rebecca Butler. Samuel also had 5 children with his first wife, Mary Jane Clarke.

Roy, a champion cyclist, was married to Vera Edith (Wooley) and working as a Plumber in Ipswich, QLD when he was recruited by the Army which was urgently seeking cyclists for work behind the lines in France in 1917. Roy served as a Private (Service No: 3342) with 34 Battalion 8th Reinforcements Cyclists Corps. He was Wounded in Action in France in 1918 and took his Discharge in 1919.

Roy moved to Sydney, New South Walse and worked as a Commercial Traveller, and following Vera's death, remarried Esther Caroline Rowland in 1931 in Sydney, NSW

Following Vera's death in 1929, Roy married Esther Caroline Prince (nee Rowland; b1867 in Maitland, NSW) - Esther was a Grocer. The couple lived in Sydney and Newcastle where Roy was a Commercial Traveller. In 1953, following Esther's death in 1946, Roy married Alice (Lal) Marjorie Thomas (nee Collins; b1904 in Tingha, NSW) in 1953. Roy and Lal retired to Werriwa, NSW where Roy died in 1979 and Lal in 1980.
