Norman Heard was the youngest of 9 children of John Samuel Heard and Hannah Martha Heard (Graham). He attended Stawell School & Hassetts Business College and was working as a Post Office Official (Letter Carrier) when he enlisted in late 1916.
He was wounded in action 21 September 1917, and died of gunshot wounds to the chest, in the No. 2 Canadian CCS, 13 days later.
His older brother, Albert Jack Heard was killed at Gallipoli on 17th September, 1915.
