Military Medal
'During the operations south of PASSCHENDAELE on 26th October, 1917 he was engaged in the construction of a strong point in the most advanced point in the final objective. Sapper RULE conducted a carrying party with engineer stores up through intense barrage fire, on the heels of the attacking infantry, and on arrival at the site promptly got his party to work on their tasks which he ably and gallantly supervised throughout eight hours of violent and destructive shell and machine gun fire. His work was several times destroyed and it was due to his dogged determination and devotion to duty that his portion of the work was finally efficiently completed, in spite of all obstacles. He displayed great initiative and cool judgement throughout the operations.'
