Albert Leslie Carlyle Low, child to Eliza Jane Low (Unknown – 7 June 1931) and Adam Low (24 March 1860 – 28 July 1907), was born on the 21st of June 1891 in Fitzroy, Victoria. Albert Low worked as an upholsterer before enlisting in WW1 at 24 years and 8 months old. After enlisting on the 19th of February 1916, Albert Low joined the 38th Battalion where he embarked to train in the United Kingdom from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Orontes on 16 August 1916. While participating in battles with his unit, Albert Low got wounded in action twice, both times by toxic gas. Fortunately, he returned back home to Victoria on the 30th of April 1919, where he later received a British War Medal on the 25th of October 1921. Sadly, Albert Low passed away on the 9th of September 1938 at just 47 years old. Between his passing and 1940, a notice was sent out and letters exchanged between the waste products section of the Australian Red Cross Society and an officer, about finding and returning two lost medals that once belonged to him. They were eventually returned and stored safely.
