Biography

Angus Wedderburn MATHEWSON was born on 29th June, 1891 in Fyvie, Aberdeen, Scotland

His parents were James MATHEWSON and Elspet ALLARDYCE - the family were living in Bon Accord Downs, Borilla Siding, Queensland 

Angus enlisted on 10th September 1915 with the Australian Army (25th Battalion)

On 2nd April, 1916 he was alotted  to proceed to join the 49th Battalion in Heliopolis - taken on strength of 49th Battalion on 8th April, 1916 Serapuem.  On 5th June 1916 proceeded to join Battalion in Alexandria - disembarked at Marseilles

Angus was Killed in Action in the Field on 13th August, 1916 - no known grave - he is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers Bretonneux, The Australian War Memorial and the Somme Roll of Honour

He was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal

His brother Samuel George MATHEWSON also served in WW1 (15th Battalion)  Returned to Australia in 1919
