Cyril Haslewood Wellington NEWBURY was born in 1878 in Melbourne, Victoria
His parents were Rowland NEWBURY and Jane Sarah HIGGS
He enlisted in Perth, WA on 6th October 1916 and was with the 28th Battalion - 18th reinforcements who embarked from Fremantle on 29th December, 1916 on the ship HMAT Persic
Cyril had previous service of three and a half years in the 11th AJR
He was Killed in Action when hit by a shell on 28th October, 1917 and is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery in Belgium - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the State War Memorial in Mount Eliza in WA
He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
