Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Lt. Alfred Stanley Hunt was killed on the 20 August 1917.  Stanley served in WW1 in the AIF in Egypt and France and saw action at Pozieres as a Corporal in the 17th Battalion. After training at Exetor College, Oxford, he qualified as a pilot in the RFC. He had just been given his 'wings' when killed in a flying accident involving another plane during formation flying. The incident occurred at Yatesbury in Wiltshire, England.

Alfred had joined up with his brother, and they served together in the 17th Battalion AIF in France, and perhaps it was the death of his younger brother Private 2672 George B.F. Hunt, killed in action Pozieres, 2nd August 1916, that prompted him to leave the AIF just after he had been promoted Corporal and join the RFC. Both the boys were born in Nevertire near Nyngan in NSW, and their father was MLC for the district for many years.
