Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

He was 24 and the son of James and Clara Jane Hogben of 41, Marine Parade, Sheerness, England. He is commemorated in the churchyard of All Saints Church,Church Green, Frindsbury, Rochester,Kent, ME2 4HE,England. There are no other names so it appears to be a very rare example of a cenotaph. These are believed to have been erected either in the forlorn hope that one day, the authorities might permit the repatriation of remains for bural locally, or simply a focal point for the family’s grieving.

His birth registration is as follows:

Births Sep 1891   Hogben William James A Medway 2a 580
