16 Nov 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Third Ypres, On the night of 13th/14th August 1917, North East of Ypres, his battery was moving into a new position in the old 'No Man's Land" with much difficulty was experienced in getting the guns over old shell holes and the very wet condition of the ground. Heavy gas and H.E. bombardment was opened on the road and tracks where the battery was at the time. His officer collapsed from gas-poisoning. This N.C.O. then arranged for his officer to be cared for and then assumed command and completed the task of placing the guns in position. He displayed great courage, initiative and resource.
