Driver Richard Arthur Aldridge (Service No:1381) enlisted on 29 September 1914 in the AIF and embarked from Melbourne on 22 December 1914 on board HMAT A40 Ceramic. Driver Aldridge served with 301 Mechanical Transport and 1st Anzac troops Supply Column in France. He was Discharged as Medically Unfit in England on 18 March 1919 and embarked for the RTA on 20 May 1920 on board HT Kigoma.
Born in 1880 in Sussex England, Richard was the fourth of twelve children of Robert Henry Aldridge (b1859 in Sussex, England) and Mary Jane Humphrey (b1858 in Sussex, England). Robert (a Carpenter) and Mary married in 1875 in Sussex where they settled and raised their family and Robert worked as a Carpenter.
Richard had served in the Royal Navy before arriving in Sydney NSW where he was working as a Cook when he enlisted in the AIF in 1914. In 1915 in Nottinghamshire, England he married Annie Cope (b1895 in Nottinghamshire, England) - Annie was a Silk Patternmaker in a Lace Warehouse. Richard and Annie settled in Melbourne, Victoria where Richard worked as a Chauffeur before moving to Wanagaratta where he was a Chef. Richard died in 1938 and Annie in 1988.
