WILLIAM FRANCIS PATRICK SHEAHAN
WILLIAM FRANCIS PATRICK SHEAHAN (1894-1975) born at Jugiong, son of Jeremiah and Mary Anne Sheahan nee Downing. William or Billy Sheahan enlisted at Sydney town Hall on February 6th, 1916 and presented for his Medical and Induction on March 20th, 1916 at the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds to serve in WW1 as Private 5404, 5th Infantry Brigade. Training was undertaken at Liverpool and he embarked on the HMAT Wiltshire A18 from Sydney on August 22nd, 1916. Sailing on the Golden Eagle on December 13th, 1916 from Folkestone to France – he was there until December 21st, 1918 at which time he returned to London. He was a dispatch rider in France. He returned to Australia on August 19th, 1919 on the Ajana. He signed a declaration on board the HMAT Ajana that her had falsified his age by a year. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
