2 Battalion
Rank - Corporal later Lance Corporal
Served in Gallipoli, later in France
21 Februaryl 1917 - Wrote a letter to a friend in Liverpool, NSW amd referred to the conditions. Mainly the deepth of snow which was a couple of feet deep in the shell holes and that some of the men were suffering from frost bite which he called 'the bite'. Also that he had met a couple others from Liverpool Brewster and Bradbury, who had just arrived and made reference to the fact that their nice clean uniforms would soon be dirty. He was looking forward to his 10 days leave in England
8 March 1917 - Wounded in action - hip. Severe
While recuperating he wrote another letter home saying that the hip was still painful but it was preferable to being in France where there was only earth, mud and slaughter and that they were getting no re-inforcements and that 'the boys' were getting a terrible beating
13 November 1918 - Found guilty of disobeying a lawful command. Fined 21 days pay
28 March 1919 Returned to Australia on board SS City of Poona
Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
