Biography contributed by Adelaide Botanic High School

Albert Ernest Hall was born around March 1886 in South Australia, in the town of Coromandel Valley. The next of kin listed on his service record was his father, James Hall. He had grey eyes and light brown hair at the time of his enlistment; he was 160 cm tall; his previous occupation was a mason; and he was not married.

With no previous military experience written on his record, he enlisted in the A.I.F. (Australian Imperial Force) in Adelaide as a Private on the 30th of December 1915, at the age of 29 years and 7 months. Hall was assigned the service number 2113 and was then appointed to the 2nd Depot Battalion from January 10 to January 15, 1916. He then embarked to serve the 15th Reinforcements, 9th Light Horse Regiment, on the 9th of September 1916.

Hall contracted several diseases and sicknesses while fighting for several different units. One of the main diseases that Hall contracted was malaria. He contracted this disease three times during his service and was evacuated to the hospital each time. These trips to the hospital could take as long as 8 days just to reach the hospital. Fortunately, Hall did not succumb to these illnesses.

Albert Ernest Hall returned to Australia on July 10, 1919. Hall is commemorated at the Blackwood War Memorial for all the brave soldiers who served in WWI.
