"THE LATE SERGEANT H. W. HUMPHRIES.

Mr and Mrs T. Humphries, of King William-road, North Unley, have received  information that their son, Sergeant Harold W. Humphries, was killed in action in France on November 5. Sergeant Humphries was born at Wallaroo on May 18, 1896 He was educated at the Fremantle Boys' School, Western Australia, and later at Prince Alfred College, and was on the Staff of the Queen and Insurance Company, Adelaide, previous to enlisting under Lieutenant-Colonel Dollman. He saw service in Gallipoli for some time, was invalided to England with enteric fever, and after recuperating went to France, where he met his death. Sergeant Humphries was of fine physique and a good all-round athlete. His sterling qualities and lovable disposition made him a general favorite. He was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Humphries, of Castle-street, Parkside." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 23 Dec 1916 (nla.gov.au)
