Third son of William and Julia Mintorn, of Church Street, Wollongongand spent all his ife in Illawarra.  Nineteen years of age, he was educated at the Wollongong District School, and, as his age implies, was a compulsory trainee.  At the time of his enlistment he was employed at the electrolytic works, Port Kembla.
