Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Lance-Corporal E. GARDNER, of the 10th Battalion, was killed in action in France on August 10. He was the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner, of Stockport. He enlisted in August, 1915, and sailed  for the front in the following January. He spent the first few months in Egypt. On one occasion he was gassed, and he also had trench feet. Great sympathy is felt for the parents, as this is the second son who has given his life for King and country. Private Hurtle Gardner died in the Keswick Military Hospital a few days after Corporal Edgar Gardner had sailed for the front. Lance-Corporal Gardner was a
railway porter at Hamley Bridge.
