On the 5th March 1966, Private Douglas Alfred Hove, 31st Battalion (Reg No-4320), tanner from Allen Street, Woolloongabba, Brisbane, Queensland and Kingaroy, QLD (1931), was laid to rest at Minmi Cemetery, age 82. Mr. Hove had died at Panania, N.S.W. on the 3rd March 1966.

Born at Brisbane, Queensland on the 17th December 1883 as Hovey to William Frederick, died 9.3.1930, Brisbane, Queensland, age 75, father of 10?, buried at Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland, from Ferry Street, West End, Brisbane, QLD, and Hill End, Brisbane, QLD, and Jane Louisa Hove nee Douglas, died 21.5.1903, Brisbane Hospital, Queensland, age 46, sleeping at Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland, from Ferry Street, West End, Brisbane, QLD; husband of Mary Ellen Hove nee?, married?, died?, also Lily May Hove nee Ellis, married?, died 14.2.1976, Sydney, N.S.W., age 85, sleeping with Doug, Left Hand Side, Section 10, Plot 040, Doug enlisted on the 22nd July 1916, age 32 years 7 months, at Brisbane, Queensland.

Unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on the 17th November 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 30.1.1917.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 25.4.1917.

Admitted to hospital 29.10.1917 (influenza), 26.6.1918 (influenza).

Granted leave to England from 5.9.1918 to 23.9.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 5.7.1919.

Doug arrived home on the 20th August 1919, being discharged on the 30th September 1919.

Name probably inscribed on a Brisbane War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at Doug’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country. Left Hand Side, Section 10, Plot 040.
