West Adelaide Football Club involvement: Frank played 1 game for WAFC in 1911. He made his debut on 22 July. The WAFC Annual Report of 1911 acknowledged Frank’s useful service for the club.
Biographical details:
Frank was the son of John Robert Budd and Mary Ellen Poole (nee Cummons).
Upon completion of basic training, Frank transferred to the 16th Battalion. His unit embarked from Adelaide on HMAT A30 Borda on 11 January 1916. On 29 February, whilst in Egypt, he transferred to the 50th Battalion. On 8 April he was admitted to No.1 Australian General Hospital in Ismailia, Egypt with pyrexia (fever). On 21 April he was treated by the 12th Field Ambulance for influenza. He was sent to France on 17 July. At Pozieres on 13 August he was affected by a shell, causing deafness. On 1 October he was admitted to Sutton Veny Hospital, England, with synovitis of the knee, claiming an accident had occurred whilst on duty. Frank was absent without leave for 2 days in October 1917 and had to forfeit 8 days’ pay. While on leave from France he was treated in early February 1918 for venereal disease for 49 days at Bulford Hospital in England, claiming he had visited prostitutes in January. Frank returned to Australia on the Sardinia in early 1919 and was discharged on 9 March. He died on 1 August 1923.
