Son of Joseph Edward and Mary Ada Vance of Cheapside Street, Maryborough, QLD

26 August 1915 - Father wrote to the Commander of the Queensland Military forces asking for John to be sent home as he was under 18 years of age and did not have his father's consent to enlist

3 June 1916 - transferred from the 2nd Battalion to the 1st Battalion

28 July 1916 - to hospital with Mumps
