FATHER FILLODEAU DEAD.
Well-known French Missionary.
The death occurred in Lewisham Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, 28th nlt, of Rev. Father A. M. Fillodeau. The deceased priest was born at Charron, in France, in 1868. and ordained in England on December 23, 1894. He commenced work in the Lismore Diocese after spending ten years in the missions in Papua. He was a chaplain in the Great War from January, 1917, and rendered service in Rabaul and France. Returning to Australia at the end of 1917, he was appointed to the parish of Port Macquarie, where he remained until the end of last year, when he resigned owing to ill-health.'After an extended holiday amongst the mountains of New Guinea, hope of Father Fillodeau 's restoration to health was bright. Whilst acting as chaplain to the De La Salle College at Oakhill he sustained a slight fall, injuring his leg, and while under treatment for this at Lewisham Hospital, complications developed, and with tragic suddenness he passed away, having received the Last Sacraments from Very Rev. Father T. Phclan, P.P. (Chancellor of the Archdiocese). Throughout his life, Father Fillodeau manifested an ardent missionary spirit, and had planned to return to Papua' at the end of 1937.
