George Alfred Platt and William Josiah Platt were brothers from Casino NSW and both serving in the 41st Battalion. Little is known of the circumstances of their deaths apart from the fact that they were both killed in action on the 8 July 1917. In a letter to their sister in 1919, the chaplain of the Battalion explained that they were good soldiers and at their own request worked together. They were killed by the same enemy shell whilst holding the line at Messines and are buried side by side in the Messines Ridge Cemetery, Plot V, Row C, Graves 39 and 40. George was 22 years old and his brother William was 24 years of age. Their mother and father had both passed away during the war years, the only survivor of the family being the sister who was the recipient of their war medals and effects.
