On 16 October 1916, Pte John McGregor, age 31 and a bit stepped forward and signed on the line to become a member of the AIF. Born in Yorkshire, at the time of enlistment John lived with his wife, Amelia at 29 Flinders Street, Mount Hawthorn and worked as a gardener.
With Service number 2848 , John served with the 44th Battalion in France and was wounded during that time. He also spent a lot of time in hospital with illness.
Upon his return home, John resumed his previous occupation as a gardener and married a second time to Emma. John died in 1952 in Katanning where he spent some years prior to his death and is buried at Karrakatta. (thank you Sandra Playle! x)
Sadly I was unable to find any photos of John but managed to find this photo of his gravestone which was organised by his niece, Mavis McCann.
Thank you for your service , John and rest in peace.
