He was 26 and the son of Harry and Ellen Landen, of 128, Commercial Rd., Prahran, Victoria, Australia.

Harry Landen, as an original member of the 23rd Battalion landed on Gallipoli on 4 September 1915, arriving there at 9:30 pm that evening. The battalion took up defensive positions at Lone Pine. Harry fell sick only a few weeks later, being admitted to the 6th Field Ambulance on 24 September 1915. He was diagnosed with influenza and bronchitis and evacuated to Malta where he was admitted to St George’s Hospital with pneumonia on 1 October 1915. He passed away six days later and was buried in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.

His younger brother, 3052 Gunner George Asher Landen 3rd Field Artillery Brigade was killed in action almost two years later in Ypres, Belgium on 26 September 1917, aged 27.
